Winner at the Shore Beer Competition Black Hole Robust PorterCheck out this great picture: Monty Dahm (left), owner of Tun Tavern Restaurant, and Tim Kelly (on right) take a break from brewing with Tun's latest Brew Contest winners: Sal Emma and Terry Leary. Emma and Leary created the winning "Black Hole Porter" - a toasty, hoppy creation that we are all anticipating. The porter will premier June 23rd!!

I wish to thank all who participated in our homebrew competition last night, judges and entrants alike. Once again homebrewers, you are all making fantastic creations. Here's how it went down: We divided the enteries into four groups which were evaluated by our judges, who were also divided into four groups. The highest scoring beers from each group were then presented to the entire panel of judges. So, without further ado the winner of the Tun Tavern 2012 Homebrew competition is "Black Hole Robust Porter" created by Sal Emma & Terry Leary of Marmora, NJ. Thanks again and see you all next year.

Hurricane Sandy and the Tun Tavern...

The Last Restaurant in Atlantic City
By Eric Vilas-Boas
at 3:17PM on Tuesday, October 30th

At Atlantic City's Tun Tavern, all that's left to do is wait — and keep serving lunch.
Superstorm Sandy hit the restaurant with four-and-a-half feet of water on Monday night, but this particular restaurant was nestled in the eye of a hurricane. So owner (and former Marine) Montgomery Dahm decided to rebuke New Jersey Governor (and fellow storm hero) Chris Christie, staying open to service rescue workers... Atlantic City's lone brewery Tun Tavern
is all about great beer and fun

By LEE PROCIDA, Atlantic City Insiders

They make a tun of good beer

The only brewpub in Atlantic City is the Tun Tavern, a restaurant, brewery and bar in between the Convention Center and The Walk on Michigan Avenue. All the beer is made on premises, with five house selections that are always on tap, such as the All American IPA that uses Jersey Fresh hops, as well as several seasonal specials at any given time, such as its Imperial Pumpkin Ale, Berliner Weiss and Boardwalk Brown Ale. The casual bar is welcoming on any given night for anyone looking to relax with a beer you can't find anywhere else.

For Immediate Release:

TIME FOR TUN TAVERN TASTY BEER – TO GO

Tun Tavern Restaurant & Brewery owner Montgomery Dahm is toasting in celebration of a NJ brewer's guild bill that passed the final stage of legislation – a signature from Governor Chris Christie - recently in Trenton. The bill, developed by the Garden State Craft Brewers Guild, now gives all craft brewers in the state more flexibility in how, when, and where they sell and promote their beer.

The most recent approval, which followed approvals by the New Jersey's Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Assembly Appropriations Committee said yes to modernizing NJ's craft beer production laws. This approval brings Dahm one step closer to selling his popular Tun Tavern beer for on and off premise consumption. Passage of the bill will lead to a healthier environment for small brewers and more choices for craft beer consumers, as well as give our local Atlantic City economy a boost.

Current regulations highly restrict what New Jersey brewers can do, especially when compared to the surrounding states of New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware. New Jersey currently ranks 32nd in overall craft beer production, compared to neighboring states like Pennsylvania (2nd), New York (7th) and Delaware (17th) which are amongst the leaders in the country, according to the Garden State Craft Brewers Guild.

The passage of this bill now allows one company to open more than two brewpubs, and allow breweries - like Dahm's 16 year old Tun Tavern - to sell beer for on & off premise consumption. In addition, breweries and brewpubs will now be allowed to conduct informational tastings off-premise, and most importantly, to distribute beer through the wholesale network.

Dahm stated that the passage of this bill "this is such great news! It means a major brewery expansion…it will help Tun Tavern and other New Jersey state breweries continue to create jobs, improve tourism opportunities and cut needless red tape. Our loyal customers will have more access to our fantastic hand crafted beers" brewed by Tim Kelly, Tun Tavern's Brewmaster.

Storm's shocking, says US tavern owner

"It's shocking what I'm looking at now," said a tavern owner in Atlantic City as he described cars that were "completely underwater" when superstorm Sandy slammed into US.
